“Nothing is written in stone”
Everything is constantly changing. Our bodies, minds, feelings, and life situations. It is the nature of the world we live in, impermanence. There are circumstances we find ourselves in that change us negatively. We may say and do regrettable things. But it’s part of life, we move on and do better. When we want our various relationships to work, we are forced to learn and practice forgiveness. Many times, we just need some time and space to recentre before a reconnection.
Traditions are basically practices that are meant to serve a community. If our needs change as we collectively grow and evolve, it only makes sense for the practices to progress along with the times. The goal of tradition should be to bring people together in a beautiful way. Not to inflict pain through unnecessary practices. We may not know any better at the time, but when new information enters our orbit, common sense demands we adjust our ways. Afterall, nothing is written in stone. Plus one lifetime is definitely too short to allow human made rules to force upon us misery.
Curating a culture or world that is fair and just requires us to see the humanity in everyone. This ignites true concern for others. If a sense of universal responsibility is developed in each of us, maybe systems would reflect this and there would be less oppression and suffering in the world. Fundamentally, all human beings are of equal value no matter the achievement or way of life.
